Austin Metcalf’s mother delivered a heartbreaking message to the teenager convicted of killing her son moments before he was sentenced to decades behind bars.
Karmelo Anthony, 19, was sentenced to 35 years in prison on June 10 after a Texas jury found him guilty of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. The fatal stabbing happened during a high school track meet in Frisco in April 2025.
As Anthony stood before the court awaiting his sentence, members of Metcalf’s family spoke directly to him about the devastating impact of Austin’s death.
Austin’s mother spoke from the heart
Austin’s mother, Meghan Metcalf, described the daily reality of living without her son.
“Now my conversations with him are one-sided, sitting at his grave,” she said, according to CBS News.
She told the court she is constantly confronted by reminders that Austin is gone.
“Going into an empty room, empty bed, and once again remembering Austin is dead.”
Meghan remembered her son as a teenager who brought people together.
“He was a morning kid. He was a hugger. He always had a way of bringing people together. He was a peacemaker.”
She also stressed that Austin’s death was not an accident.
