My name is Emily Carter and, over the past few years, I have learned everything I have wanted to keep my marriage alive. I worked for a long time in a dental clinic, helped pay for the services, cleaned the house, made the purchases, cooked each dish and, in any case, I would still sleep with my family members who treated our house as if it were a free comedor. I told myself, Ryan, that I was charmed by pretending that every single dollar from the house would come out of my wallet, even though I knew that wasn’t certain. The real problem was that Ryan wasn’t just anxious about control. She was fascinated by the public.

Today, one Tuesday night, while I was looking at the purchase I had paid for with my own debit card, Ryan entered the kitchen, looked at the bags on top of the bag and asked:
