10 Common (and Often Overlooked) Signs of Cancer

1. Unexplained Weight Loss

Losing weight without trying—especially more than 4–5 kg—can sometimes be linked to cancers of the stomach, pancreas, or lungs.

2. Constant Fatigue

Feeling extremely tired even after rest may be a warning sign, particularly in blood-related cancers like leukemia.

3. Persistent Pain

Ongoing pain (back pain, headaches, or abdominal discomfort) that doesn’t go away could indicate an underlying issue.

4. Changes in Skin

Watch for:

New moles or changes in existing ones

Darkening, redness, or yellowing of skin

These can sometimes be linked to skin cancers or internal problems.

5. Unusual Bleeding

Examples include:

Blood in urine or stool

Unexplained vaginal bleeding

Coughing up blood

This is always something to get checked.

6. A Lump or Thickening

A new lump—especially in the breast, neck, or testicles—should never be ignored.

7. Persistent Cough or Hoarseness

A cough lasting more than 3 weeks or ongoing hoarseness may be linked to lung or throat issues.

8. Changes in Bowel or Bladder Habits

Long-term constipation, diarrhea, or difficulty urinating can sometimes signal colorectal or prostate concerns.

9. Difficulty Swallowing

Frequent trouble swallowing or a feeling that food is “stuck” may need evaluation.

10. Sores That Don’t Heal

Any wound or mouth ulcer that doesn’t heal within a few weeks should be checked.
