When local law enforcement officers urgently arrived at the scene, they discovered the veteran character actor lying completely unresponsive in the front yard, suffering from multiple severe stab wounds directly to his chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by emergency medical personnel but, despite their best efforts, his injuries were too severe and he ultimately could not be saved. At the immediate scene of the crime, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, who was formally identified by authorities as the son of Handy’s girlfriend, was quickly taken into police custody after he allegedly flagged down responding officers themselves and openly claimed full responsibility for the attack.
