Missing Indigenous Teen in Milwaukee Sparks Urgent Community Search Effort

“This is a 15-year-old child, away from home, potentially injured, and now missing for nearly a week,” said Kristin Welch, executive director of the Waking Women Healing Institute. “We are calling for immediate, coordinated action to ensure her safe return.”

The Waking Women Healing Institute, an Indigenous-led organization focused on addressing violence against Native women and girls, has mobilized grassroots efforts in response. Volunteers have distributed flyers across Milwaukee neighborhoods and launched social media campaigns to raise awareness.

Advocates emphasize that Indigenous girls face disproportionately high rates of violence, exploitation, and trafficking—making swift action in missing persons cases especially critical.

Community leaders are now calling for an equitable response, stressing that all missing children deserve immediate attention and resources regardless of background.
