The day my daughters graduated from high school was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of our lives. After everything we had endured together, I couldn’t have been prouder as I watched them walk across the stage in matching caps and gowns, smiling brighter than the summer sun.

For eighteen years, it had been the three of us.

Their mother walked out of the hospital just hours after they were born. No goodbye. No explanation. Just a note that said she “couldn’t do this anymore.”

I was terrified. I had no idea how to care for newborn twins while grieving the life I thought we were going to have. But every challenge became worth it the first time they laughed, took their first steps, or hugged me after a hard day.
