This morning, I stepped out onto the porch and discovered this.

I spent the next thirty minutes frantically searching online, comparing my blurry smartphone images against pictures of insect eggs, bizarre parasites, and every nightmare-inducing creature imaginable. Each new possibility I uncovered on the web seemed progressively worse than the last, fueling my mounting anxiety. Then, buried deep within a random gardening forum, I finally found the true answer. It wasn’t alien, dangerous, or supernatural after all. It was just a cluster of large beetle grubs that had emerged from the damp soil hidden directly under the porch. The intense fear drained from my body all at once, replaced by a wave of embarrassed relief—and a strange, completely unexpected fascination with the tiny world thriving right beneath my feet.
