Beyond the viral moment, Donald Trump’s speech also included personal reflections. He spoke warmly about his late mother, Mary, and her admiration for the British royal family. Mary was born and brought up on the Hebridean island of Lewis but emigrated to New York in 1930.
“I remember her saying very clearly, ‘Charles, look, young Charles, he is so cute,’” Trump recalled. He added with a smile, “My mother had a crush on Charles – can you believe it?” The president even gestured skyward, saying, “I wonder what she is thinking right now,” blending humor with sentiment.

Despite the viral moments, the royal visit itself went smoothly. The two couples greeted each other at the White House’s South Portico before heading inside for a private tea. The meeting marked their first reunion since the Trumps’ state visit to the United Kingdom in September 2025.
